There were cats and dogs on the picket line this week supporting the striking University of Windsor faculty and librarians. There’s a tentative agreement as of last night and the ratification vote will be tomorrow at noon. Classes might resume as early as Monday.

And today begins another day of strike action at the University of Windsor. Students are caught in the middle between faculty and administration and there isn’t a whole lot to do except try to keep up with readings and coursework as best as possible and let both sides know that we’re hoping for a resolution soon.

Campus is Deserted

The strike continues at the University of Windsor. Faculty and librarians have been on strike since September 17th, 2008 and classes are already cancelled for tomorrow. At least the mediator came back to town yesterday and word is that the administration is talking at last. There’s a media blackout so we won’t hear much until it’s over which will hopefully be soon. In the meantime, the campus is deserted beyond the picket lines.

The Strike Continues

The strike continues at the University of Windsor campus. Faculty and librarians went on strike September 17, 2008. The administration won’t talk to anyone including the mediator and students are frustrated. Facebook is running the rumour mill at full speed and another week of no school begins.

It’s school bus time again: standing out in the morning and afternoon for the kids to be picked up and dropped off — and sitting behind them in traffic when their lights are flashing. Watch out for kids crossing the street and give yourself a few extra minutes in the morning in case you get stuck behind one.

Habitat for Humanity has been busy with their 2008 builds in Windsor. The organization builds homes for families in need with the family working right alongside. These volunteers were part of the 2006 crew.

Library Books

Classes are wrapping up for the semester at the University of Windsor. Next week another batch of final exams begins — and students get one last chance for an overall A+ grade.

The Leddy Library will be full of people for the next two weeks — round the clock with the new hours this year — and coffee sales are predicted to skyrocket.

A Total Lunar Eclipse

Last night, February 20th, 2008, a lunar eclipse was visible to nearly a billion people in the Western Hemisphere, more than 1.5 billion in Europe and Africa, and about another half-billion in western Asia.

The skies were clear here making the show a great one for Windsorites. It was very cool (and literally icy cold) standing outside in pajamas watching the progress.
