Dripping, drops, and splashes

The interesting thing is that sometimes we call these “drips” and they annoy us like crazy – like when they’re dripping from a leaky faucet. Sometimes thought, the last drop is exactly what we need – like the last drop in the bottom of a water bottle on a hot summer day. Or sometimes we throw a few splashes on our faces to freshen up or wake up when we’re dozy.

Water’s a pretty versatile element when it comes right down to it.

This is a trip down memory lane for me. I took this photo on Pelee Island in early summer, when I was there doing research for an oral history project.

I wish I had more time to spend on Pelee. I’d live there in a heartbeat if I could organize my life to make it possible. It’s definitely on my someday maybe list.

Sticks

I have a thing for sticks, especially driftwood. I like the feel, the smell (unless it’s like, dead fish or something). I like the beach and that what it reminds me of. I also like the aged, distressed look – it’s kind of like me.

Misty Moisty Morning

It’s been misty the past few mornings and I’m starting to notice the nights are longer and the sun rising later. This is my favourite time of year. Now if I can just guard against catching the nasty colds that are going around.

The water was high

Peaceful days. The water is smooth as glass and it’s so quiet. All I can hear is the hum of my computer’s fan and the occasional cycling of the hard drive. No flies and no risk of sunburn either as I sit on my couch and look out at the water in this photo.

I’m getting to know Windsor photographers and their subjects! I saw this one in a random search for windsor + ontario + bird and I recognized Leelo right off the bat!

Enjoy this last weekend of the summer. The weather’s getting cool but it’s not too late to go for a stroll by the riverfront or in your own backyard. It’s worth it.

Fishies!

Backyard ponds are a lot more common today than they were when I was a kid. Are these the fish that will stay at the bottom on the pond all winter long?

A bonus of having a pond in your backyard is all the mosquitoes that they eat.

This photo taken down at Windsor’s riverfront totally reminds me of the scene in the Karate Kid where Ralph Macchio is trying to balance doing high kicks on an old stump. Of course there’s no perfect line in that scene compared to the one where old Mr. Miyagi gets Ralph to polish all the old cars…
