Did you make it to the Harrow Fair this year? If you missed it you should set aside Labour Day weekend 2009 for next year’s. Food, rides, prizes for handicrafts, baking, artwork, gardening and more are waiting for you (not to mention the parade)!

Twisty Roads

Essex County has a lot of winding roads. Here’s an example where you turn left to go North and turn right to go East. The roads curve around just past this point. (Also note that this is a wine route…)

An Egret in Kingsville

Welcome to Kingsville, in southern Essex County, Ontario, right on Lake Erie, west of Leamington, east of Harrow. This is an egret just taking off from the water.

A Total Lunar Eclipse

Last night, February 20th, 2008, a lunar eclipse was visible to nearly a billion people in the Western Hemisphere, more than 1.5 billion in Europe and Africa, and about another half-billion in western Asia.

The skies were clear here making the show a great one for Windsorites. It was very cool (and literally icy cold) standing outside in pajamas watching the progress.

Prickly Prickles

Beware the prickles. They stick to your socks, cling to your pants, and tie themselves in your hair.

With the leaves gone from the branches it’s a bit easier to spot them — and Windsor parks are loaded with these. Keep in mind though that when they’re dry like this they’re also more likely to grab hold of you.

Are these the sort that Eeyore ate?

Hidden in the Sand

I keep looking at this seemingly random collection of stones and sand and seeing pictures. I see the buried ruins of a fortress, a snow angel… All the little pebbles look like tiny people busy in a market. I wonder how much of that stone is buried in the sand and if there’s a treasure under it?

The Harrow Fair

The Harrow Fair is a great time for families to get out together. Crazy rides, lemonade, exhibits, farm animals — what more could you ask for? There’s even a “Mom-Calling” contest for the little kids.

Around mid-spring the organizers publish the different competition categories so that you can begin preparing your entries. Keep an eye on the Fair’s website if you think you have the best pumpkin, apple pie, or rooster.
