I’m impressed that this photographer can identify fungus. Polyporus squamosus is also known as Dryad’s Saddle and Pheasant’s Back Mushroom. According to Wikipedia:
The name “Dryad’s saddle” refers to creatures in Greek mythology called Dryads who could conceivably fit and ride on this mushroom, whereas the pheasant’s back analogy derives from the pattern of colours on the bracket matching that of a pheasant’s back.

According to Wikipedia it’s not poisonous but I’m not going to eat it boiled, blanched, or covered in maple syrup, even if it does smell like watermelon rind.
