Daylilies

June 30th, 2008 · No Comments

You’ll see these flowers all over Windsor and Essex County, growing in gardens and along the banks of ditches. They’re everywhere and they spread like crazy. We call them daylilies but my grandmother called them ditch lilies. Officially they’re known as Hemerocallis and not true members of the lily family (Lilium) at all.

They’re very hardy: I transplanted the same clump three times in the past year and still it’s giving me blooms. Many plants would protest by not blooming until well re-established. This is one of the many reasons why I love daylilies.
