They May Have Maple Syrup

April 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

They may have maple syrup but they’ve also got snow (or at least, they did when this picture was taken). It’s going to be another sunny day and I don’t miss winter at all.

John R. Park Homestead and Conservation Area brings the past to life. From the website:

A visit to the John R. Park Homestead and Conservation Area will take you back in time to the 1850s. The house and farm buildings of John and Amelia Park are restored to bring the nineteenth century to life. Explore the Parks’ magnificent Classical Revival home, built in 1842, taste baking from the kitchen fireplace or play with a wooden toy in the children’s bedrooms. See the workings of an 1885 steam engine-powered sawmill and stop by the blacksmith shop to witness the making of small hardware and repairing of farm tools at the coal-fired forge. Don’t miss the working smoke house, ice house and barn.

It’s out in the middle of the country, in the part of Essex County where all the roads look the same. Here are the directions from Windsor, also from the website:

  1. Follow Huron Church Road south and east, away from the Bridge, until it divides into Highway 3 or 401;
  2. Take Highway 3 and continue for approximately 15 minutes;
  3. Look for the intersection with County Road 23, Jones Furniture is on this corner;
  4. Turn right (south) on Road 23. Follow Road 23 to the second stop sign;
  5. Turn right on Road 50;
  6. Continue to 915 County Road 50, on the left, blue sign.
