Youth For UNESCO Art Gallery Night was held at Mackenzie Hall on Friday 8 Februrary, 2008. UNESCO stands for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. The City of Windsor voted in 2006 to join the Coalition of Canadian Municipalities Against Racism. Among the ten commitments, the city must increase vigilance against systemic and individual racism and discrimination, increase support for people who experience racism and discrimination, support measures to challenge racism and discrimination in housing and implement measures to promote diversity and equal opportunity, and support measures to challenge racism and discrimination in the education sector, as well as in other forms of learning, and promote diversity and equal opportunity.

From the city website:
The Race and Ethnocultural Relations Committee of the City of Windsor is a committee of City Council with the mandate to advise the Mayor and Councillors on matters of community diversity in the city. The members of the committee come from many different community institutions and agencies representing the ethnocultural community in the city.
The committee discusses and recommends large community commitments such as participation in the UNESCO Coalition of Municipalities Against Racism and Discrimination. We also discuss specific incidents of racism or discrimination in the community and network to find ways to change attitudes in the community.
Our committee operates under the banner “One City, One People - Une Ville Un Peuple.” We have participated in the Carrousel of Nations, Windsor Pride, CAW Cultural Diversity Day and Youth4UNESCO to provide information to the community and give voice to the issue of discrimination in Windsor. We look forward to a future of harmony and peace.
