At its flickr home, this photo is tagged unplace. I’ve been thinking about how many unplaces there are for the people in Windsor-Essex County.

How does it make you feel to know that there are places that mean something to you, but after you leave it’s possible that no one else will ever look at them the same way?

I think I would describe “unplaces” a little differently. My opinion of an “unplace” would be the scene that could exist anywhere in the world; like your friendly, neighbourhood strip mall containing the ubiquitous McDonalds, Best Buy, Home Depot, etc. James Howard Kunstler calls this “The Geography Of Nowhere”, yet it exists everywhere.

I have an “unplace” as well that looks very much like the above. It holds childhood memories and it’s a place I thought was gone but have recently found out is still there and almost the same as it was in the ’70s. Been meaning to take the time to go take a photograph…. just in case.
