Lake Henry and the Old Pelee Lighthouse

August 1st, 2007 · No Comments

Day Three of Pelee Island today — Day One is here and Day Two is here.

Lake Henry is an interesting place because of its history. The dyke protecting Henry Nageleisen’s farm broke in a winter storm in 1972 and Lake Erie came crashing in. The farm was flooded and now there is a marsh in its place, haven to muskrat, cormorants, cranes, egrets, and assorted rusty farm implements.

Across from Lake Henry is the trail and beach leading to the Old Lighthouse. The lighthouse was restored in recent years and it is now no longer a decaying pile of snake-filled rocks.
